Leukotriene E4 (LTE4) is a lipid mediator that originates from arachidonic acid (AA) and serves a role in numerous physiological processes. The synthesis of LTE4 involves the intricate participation of the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). While the exact mechanism of action for leukotriene E4 remains incompletely understood, it is known to bind to and activate the G protein-coupled receptor CysLT1. This receptor is expressed on various cell types, including mast cells, eosinophils, and neutrophils.
