Lauroyl-DL-carnitine chloride is a zwitterionic acylcarnitine detergent compound. Lauroyl-DL-carnitine is described to increase the in vivo mucosal absorption of molecules, and has particularly been demonstrated to enhance nasal absorption of salmon calcitonin in rats most effectively of the acylcarnitines tested, and was separately demonstrated to enhance the nasal absorption of human growth hormone in rats.
