L-Tyrosine hydrochloride is an amino acid precursor of dopamine as well as other catecholamines. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and only slightly soluble in ethanol. L-Tyrosine is biologically converted from L-phenylalanine and is in turn is converted to L-DOPA and further converted into the neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. It has also been used as a substrate in enzyme assays and in the synthesis of novel compounds.
