QUICK LINKS

L-Tryptophan-d5 is a labelled and deuterated isotope of the essential amino acid Tryptophan, intended for use as an internal standard in spectrometry. It is used as a tracer to track biochemical reactions, as a tool to study the metabolism of tryptophan, and as a tool to study the physiological effects of tryptophan. This compound is metabolized by the body and converted to 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) by the enzyme tryptophan hydroxylase, and then converted to serotonin by the enzyme aromatic amino acid decarboxylase. Serotonin is then converted to melatonin by the enzyme serotonin N-acetyltransferase. The melatonin is then metabolized to 5-methoxytryptophan by the enzyme monoamine oxidase. L-Tryptophan-d5 has a calming effect and is involved in the regulation of mood, sleep, and appetite. It also has antioxidant properties, and has been studied for its potential to reduce inflammation and improve cognitive function.
