L-Proline is a catalyst used in a Michael addition of dimethyl malonate to alphabeta-unsaturated aldehydes as well as a catalyst in asymmetric aldol cyclization. L-Proline is also a precursor of hydroxyproline in collagen. L-Proline, a non-essential amino acid, plays a vital role in the body. This amino acid is present in proteins and contributes to their structural integrity and stability. Additionally, L-proline is involved in carbohydrate metabolism and the synthesis of molecules such as elastin and carnitine. Its influence extends to the regulation of cell growth, proliferation, and the maintenance of normal bodily functions. In vitro studies have been conducted to investigate the impact of proline on cell growth and proliferation, revealing its capacity to stimulate proliferation in certain cell types while inhibiting growth in others. Furthermore, proline has been observed to affect carbohydrate metabolism and the synthesis of various molecules.
