QUICK LINKS

L-Aspartic acid is an α-amino acid involved in protein biosynthesis. It contains an amino group and a carboxylic acid, with the α-amino group being protonated and the α-carboxylic acid group deprotonated under physiological conditions. L-Aspartic acid has an acidic side chain that interacts with other amino acids, enzymes, and proteins in the body, usually occurring as the negatively charged aspartate form in proteins. It is considered a non-essential amino acid as the body can synthesize it as needed. L-Aspartic acid, a pharmaceutical secondary standard, provides a convenient and cost-effective alternative for quality control in pharmaceutical laboratories and manufacturing. It is a non-essential amino acid involved in the Urea cycle, Krebs cycle, and DNA metabolism. L-Aspartic acid is also used as a component in cell culture media for the commercial production of therapeutic recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies.
