Ixabepilone is an epothilone B analog and microtubule-stabilizing agent. Ixabepilone shows potent induction of tubulin polymerization, with an EC0.01 value of 3.5 µM (about 2-fold lower than Paclitaxel). Ixabepilone shows activity against 21 paclitaxel-sensitive and paclitaxel-resistant cell lines with IC50 values of 1.4 - 34.5 nM and retained its antineoplastic activity against human cancers that were naturally insensitive to paclitaxel or that had developed resistance to paclitaxel in vivo.
