Isopteropodine is a naturally occurring alkaloid found in several plant species, including Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) and Uncaria tomentosa (cat′s claw). It is classified as a tetracyclic oxindole alkaloid. Isopteropodine is one of the many active compounds found in kratom and is believed to contribute to its pharmacological effects. It interacts with opioid receptors in the brain, producing analgesic (pain-relieving) and sedative effects.
