Isopimaric Acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid found in the seed oils of various plants and trees, including pines and spruces. It is a major component of the resin of certain species of conifers and is also found in the waxes of certain species of flowering plants. It potently opens large conductance Ca-activated K+ channels. Isopimaric Acid acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. It has also been shown to modulate gene expression and to have anti-cancer activity. In addiction, it is an important component of several industrial products, including lubricants, antifoams, and surfactants.
