Imidacloprid is an insecticide that exhibits both systemic and contact action. It belongs to the class of neonicotinoid insecticides and functions as an antagonist by attaching to postsynaptic nicotinic receptors in the central nervous system of insects. By binding to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, Imidacloprid induces paralysis and ultimately leads to the demise of the targeted insects. Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid insecticide implicated in colony collapse disorder of honey bees.
