Imazapyr is an analytical standard used for proteomics research. It is a broad spectrum non-selective herbicide, belonging to the family of imidazolinones, which can find applications in weed control management in cereals and sugar beet. Its mode of action involves the inhibition of the synthesis of branched-chain amino acids in plants. This is done by inhibiting acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS), an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine. The mode of action for this herbicide is systemic, contact, and residual it′s absorbed by both foliage and roots and quickly transported through the xylem and phloem to the meristematic regions where it accumulates.
