Idebenone, a neuroprotective agent, may act to act as a free radical scavenger and protect mitochondrial membranes against lipid peroxidation. This compound has also been found to prevent platelet aggregation and recover cholinergic and monoaminergic changes in murine models. Other studies show that Idebenone displays a capacity to increase nerve growth factor production in cultured rat astrocytes. Additionally, this agent has been reported to dose-dependently inhibit enzymatic metabolism of Arachidonic Acid (sc-200770) in astroglial homogenates.
