Hydroxy ebastine is a non-sedating antihistamine that functions as a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist. It exerts its mechanism of action by competitively binding to the H1 receptors on the surface of target cells, thereby preventing histamine from binding and activating these receptors. By interfering with the histamine-mediated inflammatory response, hydroxy ebastine effectively mitigates the allergic symptoms without causing sedation. This mechanism of action makes hydroxy ebastine useful in investigating the role of histamine in allergic reactions and for studying the pharmacological properties of H1 receptor antagonists.
