Hydrocortisone 21-acetate functions by binding to cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors, leading to the formation of a receptor-ligand complex. This complex then translocates into the nucleus, where it binds to specific DNA sequences, resulting in the regulation of gene expression. Hydrocortisone 21-acetate has the ability to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, thereby reducing inflammation and immune response. Additionally, it can also induce the expression of anti-inflammatory proteins, further contributing to its anti-inflammatory effects. At the cellular level, this compound modulates the activity of immune cells and suppresses the release of inflammatory mediators, ultimately leading to its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions.
