SEE ALSO...

HPRT Antibody (F-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects HPRT protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-HPRT antibody (F-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. HPRT, also known as hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase 1, is a crucial 218 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that plays a significant role in purine metabolism as a purine salvage enzyme. HPRT catalyzes the conversion of hypoxanthine and guanine into their respective mononucleotides, inosine monophosphate and guanosine monophosphate, thereby facilitating purine recycling and maintaining nucleotide balance within cells. HPRT exists as a homotetramer and requires two magnesium ions as cofactors for enzymatic activity. Deficiencies in HPRT can lead to serious metabolic disorders such as gout and Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, characterized by a lack of enzymatic activity. HPRT′s role in purine metabolism is underscored by severe consequences of dysfunction, including hyperuricemia and neurological symptoms associated with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, highlighting this enzyme′s critical nature in cellular health and metabolic homeostasis.
