Histamine dihydrochloride is a potent vasodilator that acts as an agonist for endogenous histamine receptors (H1-4). The activation of histamine receptors mobilizes Ca2+ and stimulates adenylate cyclase activity in neurons. This compound can stimulate gastric secretion, constrict bronchial smooth muscle, act as a neurotransmitter, and activate nitric oxide.
