Harmine hydrochloride is a CNS stimulant belonging to the beta-carboline family. As a fluorescent harmala alkaloid, Harmine hydrochloride is highly cell-permeable. This quality makes Harmine hydrochloride a highly competitive inhibitor of ATP binding to the kinase pocket of DYRK1A. Harmine hydrochloride also inhibits monoamine oxidases and cdc-like kinases. Harmine hydrochloride can also function as a 5-HT2A serotonin receptor.
