H-Ala-Pro-pNA HCl is a substrate to study the activity of enzymes such as serine proteases. It is a peptide derivative consisting of three amino acids - alanine, proline, and p-nitroaniline (pNA) - linked together. When acted upon by serine proteases, H-Ala-Pro-pNA HCl is cleaved at the Pro-pNA bond, resulting in the release of pNA. The release of pNA can be monitored spectrophotometrically at 405 nm, allowing for the measurement of enzyme activity. H-Ala-Pro-pNA is useful in the study of proteases and their inhibitors, providing insight into their mechanisms of action.
