QUICK LINKS

Guanidine Hydrochloride is a powerful, chaotropic agent which is widely used for purification of proteins and nucleic acids, especially mRNA. Furthermore, it is useful for denaturation and refolding of proteins as well as in the recovery of periplasmic proteins and isolation of RNA. At higher concentrations, this strong denaturant has been reported to be able to solubilize denatured insoluble proteins such as inclusion bodies. When utilized at lower concentrations, Guanidine Hydrochloride is noted to be useful in prompting the refolding of denatured proteins and had been reported to allow return of enzymatic activity in protocols using Guanidine Hydrochloride as a first step.

Hi I am trying to dissolve Guanidinium to 6M concentration (in DDW). its been 24h with stirrer but I am having no success to solubilize it totally! Could you suggest me what to do? Many thanks

Asked by: EsraaHaj
Thank you for your question. We suggest to try to heat the solution, or try 300g/L in ethanol.
