Glyphosate is a phosphonic acid formed from the oxidative coupling of the methyl group of methylphosphonic acid with the amino group of glycine. Glyphosate is a nonselective, broad-spectrum, perennial herbicide, usually used for vegetation crontrol. Glyphosate is the only one known to target the enzyme 5-enolpyruvyl-3-shikimate phosphate synthase (EPSPS).
