QUICK LINKS

Glycyrrhizin Acid Ammonium salt is a constituent of the licorice root that has vital anti-viral activities that have been shown to inhibit the expression of 11beta-HSD2 (11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2) via an indirect mechanism. Studies suggest that nitric oxide production is amplified in the macrophage cell line RAW264-7 and IFN-gamma activated-macrophages. Furthermore, Glycyrrhizin acid stimulates the tumor cell killing effects of IFN -gamma activated-macrophages. In addition the expression of COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2) and NOS2 (inducible nitric oxide synthase, INOS) are inhibited by Glycyrrhizin acid. This product may act to suppress the growth and acid producing effects of S. mutans in vitro.
