Glycyrrhizic acid shows anti-inflammatory, antiulcerous and antiallergic effects. Glycyrrhizic acid is an inhibitor of 11 beta-HSD. It is believed that glycyrrhizic acid may act by modulating the expression of various genes involved in inflammation and cell proliferation. In addition, glycyrrhizic acid may act by inhibiting the activity of enzymes involved in the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates, as well as by binding to certain receptors on the surface of cells.
