QUICK LINKS

Glutaraldehyde solution, with a concentration of 50% w/w, is a widely used chemical in various fields. One of its primary uses is as a disinfectant and sterilizing agent due to its broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties. Glutaraldehyde effectively kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and even bacterial spores. In addition to its disinfectant properties, glutaraldehyde is utilized as a fixative in histology and electron microscopy. It cross-links proteins and other biomolecules, preserving cellular structures and enabling detailed examination of tissues and cells under the microscope. Moreover, glutaraldehyde is employed in industrial applications, such as the production of plastics, resins, and adhesives. Its ability to cross-link polymers makes it a valuable component in the manufacture of durable materials used in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, and construction. Furthermore, glutaraldehyde is utilized in biomedical research for various purposes, including protein cross-linking, tissue engineering, and the production of biomaterials. Its biocompatibility and ability to modify biological molecules make it a versatile tool in these fields.

I got the glutaraldehyde last week but as I diluted it further in water it fell out and I have white flakes now I can't solve. Any recommendations? Thanks

Asked by: YvonneK99
Thank you for your question. This Glutaraldehyde solution, 50% w/w: sc-207716 is miscible with water, but to what extend has not been determined. Unfortunately, we do not have any suggestions for how to resolve white flakes in solution. It is also miscible in acetone, dichloromethane, ethylacetate, isopropanol, n-hexane and toluene. If you have concerns that the product has precipitated out of solution, please contact our Technical Service Department for support. Please call our European Support office toll-free at 00800 4573 8000, email europe@scbt.com, or contact us by live chat.
