Giardia lamblia 65 kDa antigen Antibody (BDI612) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects Giardia lamblia 65 kDa antigen (GL65) by western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence (IF). Anti-GL65 antibody (BDI612) is available as the non-conjugated format. GL65 plays a crucial role in the parasite′s ability to adhere to the intestinal epithelium, which is essential for survival and pathogenicity. GL65 is located on the surface of the trophozoite form, facilitating attachment to host cells and contributing to the disruption of normal intestinal function. Understanding GL65 function is vital, as GL65 not only aids in giardiasis diagnosis but also provides insights into potential therapeutic targets for intervention. Giardia lamblia is a flagellated protozoan parasite that infects mammalian gastrointestinal tracts and causes giardiasis, a type of gastroenteritis characterized by severe diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Infection is transmitted through contaminated food or water consumption, or via contact with mammalian feces. Giardia protozoan cannot survive outside of the host environment, existing as a resilient cyst that endures in the environment for up to a month, transitioning to its active trophozoite form upon infection. Following the feeding stage, Giardia trophozoite undergoes asexual replication through longitudinal binary fission, resulting in excretion of both trophozoites and cysts through the digestive system. Trophozoite form is identifiable by its large karyosome and absence of peripheral chromatin, while cyst form is characterized by four nuclei and a retracted cytoplasm.
