Gestrinone is a steroid with a functional role as a progestogen. It acts as a selective progesterone receptor modulator, binding to and activating the progesterone receptor. This interaction inhibits the secretion of gonadotropins, leading to the suppression of ovulation.Gestrinone has anti-estrogenic effects, reducing the proliferation of the endometrium. At the molecular level, gestrinone interferes with the normal hormonal regulation of the menstrual cycle, disrupting the feedback mechanisms that control the release of reproductive hormones.
