QUICK LINKS

Geneticin (G418) Sulfate, also designated Antibiotic G418, is an aminoglycoside antibiotic found in Micromonospora rhodoranga NRRL 5326. Geneticin (G418) Sulfate may act to cause a bypass of nonsense mutations during translation. Experiments have shown that Geneticin (G418) Sulfate inhibits the incorporation of amino acids into protein and can destroy fibroblasts. Mechanistic studies suggest that Geneticin (G418) Sulfate affects the 80S ribosome and inhibits the elongation cycle. Further studies report that Geneticin (G418) Sulfate is highly active against amoebae, protozoa, tapeworm, and pinworm exposed murine cells.

Is this cell culture grade? Have the endotoxin levels been tested? And is sterility guaranteed?

Asked by: 13punMA
This product has not been specifically tested for cell culture use and is not cell culture grade, however, most products can still be used in cell culture applications by following basic cell culture protocols, e.g. using cell culture grade/sterilized solvents, aseptic technique, and sterilely filtering in a sterile hood. The endotoxin levels are not normally tested but a custom assessment can be done for an additional fee. Sterility cannot be guaranteed.

Asked by: two2igm05
We recommend that solutions be used the same day they were made. For short term storage (less than 6 months), the solution may be aliquotted it into useable amounts and stored frozen (-20ºC to -80ºC). Multiple freeze/thaw cycles should be avoided.
