SEE ALSO...

GalNAc-T6 Antibody (Y5J) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects GalNAc-T6 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-GalNAc-T6 antibody (Y5J) is available as a non-conjugated format. The UDP-N-acetyl-alpha-D-galactosamine:polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase (GalNAc-T) family of enzymes, to which GalNAc-T6 belongs, plays a crucial role in initiating mucin-type O-linked glycosylation, a process vital for protein function and cellular communication. GalNAc-T6, also known as GALNT6 (Polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 6), is a 622 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein primarily localized in the Golgi apparatus. GalNAc-T6′s structure includes a stem region and a C-terminal ricin/lectin-like domain, which are essential for enzymatic activity. GalNAc-T6 shows high expression in tissues such as the trachea, fibroblasts, and placenta, with lower levels in the brain and pancreas. GalNAc-T6 catalyzes the transfer of an N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue to serine and threonine residues on target proteins, marking the first step in O-linked oligosaccharide biosynthesis. This enzymatic action is not only critical for normal cellular functions but also has implications in cancer biology, as GalNAc-T6 may serve as a potential marker for breast cancer and participates in the synthesis of oncofetal fibronectin.
