FVT1 Antibody (SS-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the FVT1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-FVT1 antibody (SS-7) is available as the non-conjugated format. FVT1, also known as follicular variant translocation protein 1 or KDSR (3-ketodihydrosphingosine reductase), is a 332 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein that is primarily localized to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). This localization is crucial as the ER plays a significant role in the synthesis and folding of proteins, as well as in lipid metabolism. FVT1 is a member of the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) family and is widely expressed, with the highest levels found in the placenta, kidney, lung, small intestine, and stomach. FVT1 catalyzes the NADP-dependent reduction of 3-ketodihydrosphingosine (KDS) to dihydrosphingosine (DHS), a vital step in sphingolipid metabolism, which is essential for maintaining cellular structure and signaling. Importantly, defects in the gene encoding FVT1 have been linked to follicular lymphoma, a common and slow-growing cancer that arises from B-cells, while mutations in the corresponding bovine ortholog are associated with spinal muscular atrophy, a group of disorders characterized by the loss of motor neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord.
