FrPbAII is a component of the Parawixia bistriata spider venom which has been shown to selectively inhibitf GABA and glycine uptake (IC50=65 µM and 62 µM respectively) with little or no effect on monoamine or glutamate transporters. It produces neuroprotective effects in a rat retinal ischemia/reperfusion model displaying remarkable reduction in cell death1. It also abolishes convulsive tonic-clonic seizures induced by bicuculline (SCBT Catalog # sc-200485) in rats.
