SEE ALSO...

Forssman Antigen Antibody (M1/87) is a rat monoclonal IgM antibody that detects Forssman Antigen protein of mouse, rat, human, and ovine origin by flow cytometry (FCM). Anti-Forssman Antigen antibody (M1/87) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including phycoerythrin (PE) and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). Forssman Antigen is a glycolipid heterophil protein that plays a significant role in cellular interactions and immune responses, being expressed in the tissues of many species. Notably, Forssman Antigen presence has been linked to several human cancers, such as gastric, colon, and lung cancers, highlighting its potential as a biomarker for disease progression. In mice, Forssman Antigen serves as a developmental and differentiation-associated antigen, with expression in macrophages being modulated by cytokines, which underscores its importance in immune regulation and response. Forssman Antigen was named after the Swedish pathologist John F. Forssman and was later identified as the GalNAc(1-3)/GalNAc(1-R) disaccharide group, which is crucial for biological activity and interactions with other cellular components.

Can Forssman Antigen (M1/87): sc-23939 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: Dr Ninau Qelp
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, Forssman Antigen (M1/87): sc-23939 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
