Fluridone is an herbicide widely utilized to manage aquatic weeds in various water bodies. It serves as a selective herbicide and finds application in both agricultural and non-agricultural settings. Comprising a fluorine atom, a nitrogen atom, and an oxygen atom, fluridone exists as a white solid at room temperature and exhibits solubility in water. Its primary role revolves around the control of diverse aquatic weeds. Fluridone operates by impeding the action of the enzyme acetolactate synthase (ALS), which plays a pivotal role in synthesizing branched-chain amino acids. By inhibiting ALS, fluridone disrupts protein production, ultimately leading to the demise of the targeted plant. Furthermore, fluridone acts as an inhibitor of photosynthesis, further contributing to the plant′s demise.
