Fluorescin is a fluorescent probe in biology used to detect protein location and activation, identify protein complex formation and conformational changes, and monitor biological processes. It is a member of the xanthene family of dyes, which are organic compounds that absorb light and emit light. When light hits Fluorescin, it is absorbed by the dye and then re-emitted as a different color. This process is known as fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). Fluorescin can be used in a variety of laboratory experiments, such as fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and fluorescence spectroscopy.
