Fluocinolone acetonide-21-carboxylic acid is a derivative of the tumor suppressing steroid, Fluocinolone acetonide (sc-204756). Fluocinolone acetonide is a synthetic glucocorticoid which acts as an inhibitor of tumor cells. Studies indicate that Fluocinolone acetonide can inhibit promotion of tumor cells at an early stage of promotion if combined with a promoting agent. In addition, studies suggest that Fluocinolone acetonide can regulate lipid metabolism by modulating gene expression. Alternate studies show that Fluocinolone acetonide can inhibit the expression of VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) in the retinal pigment epithelial cell line due to its high glucocorticoid receptor affinity. Furthermore, Fluocinolone acetonide can inhibit TNF-α angiogenesis.
