Flumethasone functions as a potent anti-inflammatory agent. It exerts its mechanism of action by binding to cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors, leading to the formation of a receptor-ligand complex. This complex then translocates into the nucleus, where it modulates gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences. Flumethasone ultimately suppresses the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes, thereby reducing the production of inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and chemokines. It inhibits the activity of phospholipase A2, leading to decreased production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Flumethasone also has immunosuppressive effects by inhibiting the function of immune cells such as T-lymphocytes and macrophages.
