Fludioxonil is a nonsystemic phenylpyrrole structurally related to pyrrolnitrin. Fludioxonil is a fungicide that effectively inhibits fungal growth. It has been to be effective against postharvest fungal infections and synergizes with zirconium oxide. It binds to copper ions and prevents ATP binding to ATP-binding cassette transporter proteins (ABC) transporters) within fungal cells. This interruption results in apoptosis of these cells by inhibiting the mitochondrial electron transport chain.
