Ficoll®, Type 70 is a nonionic synthetic polymer of sucrose that has been studied as a macromolecular crowding (MMC) agent in protein refolding. Ficoll®, Type 70, is a branched polysaccharide polymer with a high molecular weight. It is composed of sucrose and epichlorhydrin through copolymerization, and it is believed that the polymer does not possess any ionized groups.
