QUICK LINKS

Ferrous fumarate (FeFum) is a type of iron widely utilized in the production of consumer goods. Comprising iron and fumaric acid, this form of iron boasts high bioavailability and easy absorption by the body. Ferrous fumarate plays a vital role as an essential mineral, facilitating the transport of oxygen in the bloodstream and contributing to the production of red blood cells. The compound undergoes metabolism through two main processes. Firstly, hydrolysis of the ferric ion occurs, catalyzed by esterases or glucuronidases. Secondly, oxidation takes place, mediated by cytochrome P450 enzymes or glutathione reductase.
