ferritin Antibody (5E596) is a mouse monoclonal IgG3 antibody that detects ferritin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-ferritin antibody (5E596) is available as the non-conjugated format. Ferritin plays a crucial role in iron metabolism, serving as the primary intracellular iron storage protein, which is essential for maintaining iron homeostasis in cells. Ferritin is composed of 24 subunits that form a hollow spherical structure, allowing ferritin to sequester iron in a soluble and non-toxic form. This structure enables ferritin to store large amounts of iron, releasing iron in a controlled manner to meet cellular needs, thereby preventing iron overload, which can lead to oxidative stress and cellular damage. Additionally, ferritin heavy chain is involved in the regulation of thymidine biosynthesis, which is critical for DNA synthesis and cell proliferation, particularly in cancer cells like MCF-7. The gene encoding human ferritin heavy chain is located on chromosome 11q13, while the light chain gene is found on chromosome 19q13.3-q13.4, highlighting the genetic basis for ferritin′s function and importance in various physiological and pathological processes.
