A ferroin-type reagent with enhanced characteristics for iron detection where it forms a tris complex with ferrous iron and is characterized by improved water solubility and stability over a pH range of 4 to 9. This compound is also effective for use in the detection of trace metals, including Cyanide, at 382 nm, Palladium at 432 nm, Ruthenium at 520 nm, and for indirect detection of Chromium at 593 nm.
