FADS1 Antibody (7-RY13) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects the FADS1 protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-FADS1 antibody (7-RY13) is available as the non-conjugated format. FADS1, also known as Delta(5) desaturase or D5D, is a crucial enzyme in the fatty acid desaturation process, playing a significant role in lipid metabolism by converting linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid into highly unsaturated fatty acids. This 444 amino acid protein is predominantly expressed in the liver, brain, adrenal gland, and heart, and is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum, where FADS1 functions as a multi-pass membrane protein. FADS1′s importance lies not only in enzymatic activity but also in structural features, which include N-terminal cytochrome b5-like domains and C-terminal multiple membrane-spanning regions that are essential for function. These structural characteristics enable FADS1 to effectively catalyze the desaturation of dihomo-gamma-linoleic acid and eicosatetraenoic acid, leading to the production of arachidonic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid, respectively. Furthermore, variations in the FADS gene cluster, including single nucleotide polymorphisms, have been implicated in various inflammatory and immune-related diseases, highlighting FADS1′s relevance in health and disease.
