Eptifibatide acetate is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide. Eptifibatide acetate specifically targets the platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor and inhibits its activity. By blocking this receptor, eptifibatide prevents the binding of fibrinogen and other ligands, ultimately reducing platelet aggregation and the formation of blood clots. Eptifibatide acetate is a selective inhibitor of Integrin alpha IIb (platelet glycoprotein IIb) /Integrin beta 3 (platelet glycoprotein IIIa) receptors.
