Enfuvirtide T-20 is a synthetic peptide engineered to specifically target the gp41 protein found in the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Enfuvirtide T-20 specifically targets the gp41 protein found on the surface of the HIV virus. By binding to this protein, Enfuvirtide T-20 effectively blocks the fusion process between the virus and the target cell. This pivotal action prevents the virus from entering the target cell, thus impeding its replication. Additionally, Enfuvirtide T-20 exhibits an additional capability of binding to various proteins present on the cell surface. This supplementary binding activity further hampers the entry of the virus into the cell.
