EN-1 Antibody (E-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgM antibody that detects EN-1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-EN-1 antibody (E-12) is available as the non-conjugated form. EN-1 protein plays a crucial role in the development of the midbrain and cerebellum, as well as in the dorsal/ventral patterning of limbs and the formation of the apical ectodermal ridge. EN-1 protein is a murine homolog of the Drosophila homeobox gene engrailed, which is essential for segmentation during development, particularly in the formation of posterior compartments. In humans, EN-1 and EN-2 are homeodomain-containing proteins that are vital for proper patterning of the central nervous system during embryonic development. EN-1 protein is predominantly expressed in dopaminergic neurons located in the substantia nigra and ventral tegmentum, areas critically involved in motor control and affected in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson′s disease. EN-1 and EN-2 regulate the expression of α-synuclein, a protein genetically linked to Parkinson′s disease, highlighting EN-1′s importance in both developmental biology and disease pathology.
