SEE ALSO...

eIF2A Antibody (3A7A8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects eIF2A protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), flow cytometry (FCM), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). eIF2A (3A7A8) antibody is available as a non-conjugated format. eIF2A protein, also known as CDA02, MSTP004, or MSTP089, is a 585 amino acid protein characterized by three WD repeats, which are crucial for translation initiation process. eIF2A protein is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels found in heart, brain, pancreas, and placenta, highlighting essential role in cellular metabolism and protein synthesis. eIF2A functions as a translation initiation factor by binding to methionyl-tRNA and directing it to 40S ribosomal subunits, a critical step in early stages of protein synthesis. Unlike eIF2 complex, which operates in a GTP-dependent manner, eIF2A facilitates this process in a codon-dependent manner, underscoring unique regulatory capabilities. Additionally, eIF2A may play a role in negative regulation of specific proteins, suggesting potential function as a transcriptional repressor. eIF2A exists in two isoforms due to alternative splicing, which may contribute to diverse functional roles in different cellular contexts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good antibodyImmunoprecipitation followed by Western Blotting showed good enrichment in the eIF2A IP compared to low amounts of cell lysate (eIF2A and IgG Input controls). The eIF2A-detected band showed up at the expected size of ~60 kDa and indicates two distinct eIF2A isoforms in the Input controls.
