SEE ALSO...

EGF Antibody (F-9) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects epidermal growth factor (EGF) of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). EGF Antibody (F-9) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. EGF is a crucial 53-amino acid protein that plays a significant role in cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation, making EGF vital for various physiological processes, including wound healing and tissue repair. EGF exerts effects by binding to the EGF receptor on the cell surface, triggering a cascade of intrinsic phosphorylation events on tyrosine residues, which ultimately leads to cellular responses such as mitogenesis. EGF is found in human tissues and various body fluids, including urine, saliva, milk, and platelet-rich plasma, highlighting EGF′s importance in both local and systemic biological functions. EGF shares 30-40% amino acid homology with other growth factors like transforming growth factor alpha (TGFα) and vaccinia virus growth factor, and EGF is part of a larger family that includes Cripto, Amphiregulin, and the heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor, which also interact with the EGF receptor, further underscoring EGF′s complexity and significance in cellular signaling pathways.

Can EGF (F-9): sc-166779 monoclonal antibody be used in IF or IHC with mouse tissue or cells? Will there be non-specific staining?

Asked by: DefinitelyNotMatt
Thank you for your inquiry. The use of mouse monoclonal antibodies with mouse samples is very common and typically poses no problem. To eliminate any potential cross-reactivity of an anti-mouse secondary detection reagent, EGF (F-9): sc-166779 is available in a variety of direct conjugations, such as HRP, PE, FITC and AlexaFluors.
