QUICK LINKS

Echinocandin B is a cyclic hexapeptide echinocandin found in Aspergillus nidulans var. echinulatus. In research applications it has shown anti-yeast activity by targeting fungal cell walls. It acts as an inhibitor of 1,3-β glucan synthase, a key enzyme in the synthesis of beta-1,3-glucan, which is a component of the fungal cell wall. The compound may act to halt the growth of C. albicans in laboratory applications, evidenced by its ability to prevent the incorporation of glucose into the glucan structure of S. cerevisiae spheroplasts in a concentration-dependent fashion.
