Doramectin is an avermectin compound with a wide-ranging impact on various parasites and is a semi-synthetic iteration of a substance found in the Streptomyces avermitilis bacterium. Laboratory research has confirmed doramectin′s active properties against numerous parasites, showing it to have a comprehensive spectrum of action. Studies also indicate that doramectin possesses considerable stability, retaining its effectiveness over extended storage periods. The mechanism through which doramectin acts involves attaching to specific receptors on parasite surfaces, particularly glutamate-gated chloride channels, which leads to an increased entry of chloride ions into the cells of the parasites. This triggers hyperpolarization of the cells, culminating in their paralysis and subsequent death.
