DL-Xylose is a monosaccharide sugar found in nature and a member of the pentose sugar family. DL-Xylose is an important component of carbohydrates and plays a major role in the metabolism of plants, animals, and bacteria. It is a key component of the pentose phosphate pathway and the pentose shunt, and is a major source of energy for cells. DL-Xylose may act to increase the activity of enzymes involved in glucose metabolism, as well as to increase the production of certain hormones, such as insulin. DL-Xylose is also used as a starting material in the synthesis of many other compounds.
