DL-Pipecolic acid hydrochloride is an organic solvent. It is used as a chlorinating agent in the production of picolinic acid and DL-pipecolic acid ethyl ester. Furthermore, DL-Pipecolic acid is used in the synthesis of DL-pipecolic acid chloride, which is used in the production of various molecules, including anti-inflammatory agents. The cellular uptake of DL-pipecolic acid is controlled by a carboxylate group positioned at the terminal end of each molecule. This group interacts with a receptor on the cell membrane, triggering an uptake mechanism that leads to the accumulation of DL-pipecolic acid within the cells.
