DL-Ala-DL-Ala, also known as DL-Alanyl-DL-alanine, is a dipeptide compound extensively utilized in scientific investigations. This amino acid derivative consists of two amino acids bonded together by a peptide bond. It is postulated that DL-Ala-DL-Ala engages with the cell membrane by establishing a hydrogen bond with the phospholipids present. This bonding process is believed to induce modifications in the structure and function of the membrane, enabling the passage of molecules across it. Furthermore, DL-Ala-DL-Ala is presumed to have interactions with enzymes, potentially influencing their activity levels.
